The 7 Major Chakras
The word Chakra is Sanskrit for "wheel/disk." Chakras are energy centers in the human body and connect the mind, body, and spirit. There are 7 major chakras, which align the spine, starting from the base of the spine through to the crown of the head.
Chakras draw in the divine life-force energy from the universe and distribute this vital energy to the physical glands and organs throughout the body and bloodstream obtaining optimum health and well being. Chakras are considered to be connected and therefore, affect one another. Achieving optimum balance of these Chakras provides a state of total well being emotionally and physically.
Chakras are depicted as lotus flowers; each one having its own color, vibrational frequency and symbol. Each Chakra must vibrate at the appropriate frequency, independent of one another, in order for the body to vibrate in harmony. Each chakra is equally important to the optimum functioning of the body.
The Chakra system takes a complete view of human experience and integrates the natural tendency for equilibrium into the many layers that make up the self; the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
Chakras operate like inter-connected, self-opening, valves that channel the Universal Life Force in to the body. Dysfunction, or blockages, in one part have an impact on all the other parts. Malfunctioning can occur when the energy flowing through the Chakras is either over-active or under-active.
The 7th Chakra- The Crown
The Crown Chakra is located at the top of the head and is associated with the color purple, or white. The Crown Chakra is connected to the pineal gland, which is a small, pea-sized gland that lies deep within the brain. It helps produce melatonin and regulates our internal clock, and is the control center for our physical, emotional, and mental selves.
If your Crown Chakra is too open you may experience being Psychotic or manic depressive, have confused sexual expression, feel frustrated, and feel a sense of unrealized power.
If it is blocked, you may feel constantly exhausted, find that you're unable to make decisions, and/or have no sense of "belonging."
If your Crown Chakra is in balance, you may have a magnetic personality, find that you are achieving "miracles" in life, feel transcendent, and at peace with yourself.
The 6th Chakra- The Third Eye
The Third Eye Chakra is located close to the middle of the eyebrows and is associated with the color indigo. The Third Eye Chakra is connected to the pituitary gland, which is considered to be the "master gland" of the endocrine system. It is controlled by hormonal substances released by the hypothalamus in the brain. The Pituitary gland influences growth, metabolism, and body chemistry. It includes a hormone which produces contractions during labor, and releases milk from the breast during lactation. Due to this connection between the Third Eye and the pituitary gland, many women feel that their intuition, particularly with regard to their children, peaks during pregnancy and after birth.
If your Third Eye Chakra is too open you may experience being highly logical, dogmatic, authoritarian, and/or arrogant.
If it is blocked, you may feel undisciplined, fear success, and/or set your sights too low.
If your Third Eye Chakra is in balance, you may feel charismatic, highly intuitive, not attached to material things, and/or you may experience unusual happenings.
