21 Days of Gratitude- Day 17

I'm grateful for change.

If you know me at ALL you know that was a tough sentence to write because I hate change. I fear change, but because fear is a choice and I'm facing it, here we are. Why am I grateful for change? Change is constant, its inevitable, and it helps us grow. Without change, everything would stay the same. And while that would be great for some, its not for others. Change is fair and doesn’t discriminate; it effects everyone. Change is a power. If you don't like something, you can work to change it. We cannot become what we want to be by remaining the same. You have to leave the confines of your comfort zone in order to build your life to what you want it to be, and who you want to be. Change brings progress.

Changes can occur in our thought process. We can make the choice to change our thoughts from negative to positive, or positive to negative; both result in a chain reaction of change in our life.

Change can occur in our relationships. In life, there can be a revolving door of people who come into and out of our lives. Most people are there to teach us valuable lessons and bring change. Some are in for a lifetime, but pop out for a little while to go on their own journey for change and growth before coming back. Sometimes you need to separate from each other for a bit in order to be able to continuing growing together later. As sad, and as uncertain as it sounds.

Change can occur in our work and home lives, etc. We can change our physical environment, the list of things we need to get done, our roles, our locations, etc.

Sometimes change doesn't make any sense, or can hurt. I don't deny that change can be painful, but try and see the silver lining in it. What difference can this change make in your life? What positive outcomes could result from this change? You can work with change. You can embrace it and see what happens, as scary and as full of hope as I am about it too.

We can't hide from change. We just have to roll with it as much as we don't want to. Sometimes, the change is permanent and sometimes its only temporary. However, it almost always brings about the opportunity for something.

Don't allow the fear of change to hinder your growth, evolution, and progress. Yes, change is hard. Yes, change is messy. But change always brings about something beautiful in the end. We have the power to make the changes that lead to a beautiful ending of our story.

What changes do you need to make? What are you grateful for?

p.s. This is one of my favorite songs as it reminds me of my mother. When we were little, we'd make her crank it in her minivan and sing at the top of our lungs. I'm sure she'd wish for those days back if she could....
