I’m grateful for the night.
My favorite nights are summer nights! Sitting outside looking up at the stars on the deck in the quietness of the dark, looking at the clarity of the night sky and the stars that shine in the darkness. Without the darkness, we wouldn’t see them, we wouldn’t know they were there. The darkness holds beauty all of its own. Fireflies, constellations, meteor showers, and the most beautiful of all, the moon. I love the moon. I have watched the moon with wonder and love since I was a little girl. As a 4 year old, I used to think it was watching me too; looking down on me and smiling. My parents said I called it the “moom.” I’m 36 and I’ve never stopped looking at the moon the way I did when I was 4. It still amazes me, and brings me back to that little girl.
Night gives opportunity for light to shine, much like the way our difficult times give us the opportunity to see our inner strength and to shine on through them.
Lighthouses are beacons of beautiful light guiding home the ships in the night from rough waters and obstacles in their path, and help bring them to safety. This is the reason I love lighthouses so much. Lighthouses can be the people in our lives too, but most importantly, we all have our own light inside of each of us. We just have to remember that, even on our darkest days. Look up, and remember that the stars cannot shine without darkness, and that the light inside of you shines brighter than any other.
What’s your favorite thing about nighttime? What are you grateful for for today?
