I’m grateful for time.
Time is a tricky thing to be grateful for because I have a hard time with it. Time is a double edged sword. We know that time heals all wounds, but sometimes can seem like it takes forever to happen. Time can be torture when you really want something and you have to wait for it, but it can be great when you need more time in order to avoid or deal with something. Time is stressful, and can be a burden when we’re cramming so much into one day because we feel that we have to. We often feel guilty just taking time for ourselves, regularly thinking that we should be doing something more productive with our time instead.
Time is also one of the BEST gifts we can give to another. It’s truly one of mine anyway. I love spending time with people I care about, and I love when people take the time to spend with me. Time is something that we are never able to get back once it’s gone, so it’s important how we choose to spend our time.
We live our lives by a clock, and as a result we either pack too much in or put too much off for later. In reality, time is an illusion and did not exist prior to man.
We put time constraints on achievements, milestones, and life events. “I need be married by 25. Have a kid at 27. Be CEO by 30.” My mother said the most helpful thing to me a few years ago when I had just those thoughts as people around me got married, bought houses, and got promotions at work....”Everyone gets there. They just get there at different times.”
We can’t plan for life. Life just happens when it’s going to happen and how it’s going to happen, and no timeline we put on ourselves is going to change that.
If we value the time we have now, without expectation then our experiences become much more fulfilling and even better than that, we end up enjoying our journey through life.
What would happen if you spent your whole day not watching the time? What are you grateful for?
